Julie M.B. Bradley, CFO, TripAdvisor
Julie is responsible for overseeing corporate finance, investor relations, accounting, corporate development, human resources and real estate at TripAdvisor. Bradley previously served as senior vice president and chief financial officer of Art Technology Group (ATG), where she was responsible for managing all financial activities, investor relations and global infrastructure. During her tenure, Bradley guided the company to profitable revenue growth and ultimately oversaw the acquisition of ATG by Oracle. She was also named 2010 CFO of the Year Award Honoree by the Boston Business Journal. Prior to joining ATG, Bradley was vice president of finance at Akamai Technologies. She started her career at Deloitte. Bradley is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a B.A. in Economics from Wheaton College.
Marshall N. Carter, Chairman, NYSE Group, Inc.
Marshall N. Carter has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the NYSE Group or its predecessor, New York Stock Exchange, since April 7, 2005 . Mr. Carter, has been a director of the NYSE since November 2003.
Mr. Carter most recently was a lecturer in leadership and management at the Sloan School of Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, where from 2001 to 2005 he was a Fellow at the Center for Public Leadership and the Center for Business and Government.
From 1992-2001 Mr. Carter was chairman and CEO of the State Street Bank and Trust Co., and its holding company, State Street Corporation. He joined State Street in July 1991 as president and chief operating officer, became CEO in 1992 and chairman in 1993. During his nine years as CEO, the company grew more than six fold. State Street is a leading servicer and manager of financial pension and mutual fund assets worldwide. Prior to joining State Street , Mr. Carter was with the Chase Manhattan Bank for 15 years, in positions related to finance, operations and global securities businesses.
A former Marine Corps officer who was awarded the Navy Cross and Purple Heart during two years’ service as an infantry officer in Vietnam , Mr. Carter served from 1975-76 as a White House Fellow at the State Department and Agency for International Development. Major projects during that year were the application of satellite technology to agricultural activities in West Africa , the use of high-level U2 photography for disaster relief activities in Guatemala and the use of sensor-surveillance equipment as a member of the project team that installed the U.S. Sinai Surveillance Mission in Israel after the 1973 Middle East War.
Mr. Carter holds a B.S. degree in civil engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point ; (1962) an M.S. in operations research and systems analysis from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey ,California (1970); and an M.A. in science, technology and public policy fromGeorge Washington University (1976) which he attended on the GI Bill.
Mr. Carter is chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Boston MedicalCenter , the primary inner city hospital for Boston . Long active in industry affairs, he has been on the boards of the American Bankers Association, CEDEL in Luxembourg , Euroclear in Brussels , and National Securities Clearing Corporation in New York . From 1988-1995 he co-chaired the U.S. Working Group of Thirty, which developed recommendations for revamping world securities clearance and settlement processes after the securities markets problems of October 1987. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Honeywell International from 1997-2005. Mr. Carter also chaired the Massachusetts Governor’s Special Advisory Task Force on Massport following the events of September 11, 2001 . In 2006, Mr. Carter was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
R. Todd Cronan, Partner, Goodwin Procter
R. Todd Cronan is a partner in Goodwin Procter’s Litigation Department and chairs the Securities Litigation & White Collar Defense Group. He has also been a member of the Executive Committee of the firm.
Mr. Cronan’s practice focuses on representing public companies and emerging growth companies, and their boards of directors, and the institutions that fund their growth. His areas of expertise include the representation of such companies, and their directors and officers, in securities litigation and SEC enforcement matters. He also regularly advises boards of directors on strategies to avoid disruptive and costly litigation in a transactional context.
Mr. Cronan has represented NASD and NYSE listed corporations charged with nondisclosure and reporting violations under the federal securities laws; boards of directors facing claims of breach of fiduciary duty in connection with merger and acquisition transactions; and public companies and individual directors and officers facing SEC investigations and enforcements actions. He also has expertise representing boards of directors and special committees in a wide range of investigative matters.
In the private company area, Mr. Cronan has represented boards of directors and special committees involved in disputes over stock valuation and employee buy-outs; venture capital firms in disputes over leveraged recapitalizations and other refinancings; and entrepreneurs in litigation concerning their ownership rights.
Mr. Cronan has written and lectured extensively on issues impacting public companies and their boards of directors. He also is a regular speaker at PLI seminars on topics involving securities litigation and SEC enforcement issues. Mr. Cronan has participated in seminar presentations for members of the Massachusetts High Technology Council, the Massachusetts Software Council and the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council on topics such as minimizing liability for securities law claims and communicating with investors and securities analysts. He is also a guest lecturer at Harvard Business School.
Mr. Cronan is a member of the Massachusetts Bar, as well as the bar of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First, Second and Third Circuits and the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. He has been admitted to practice before courts in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas.
Mr. Cronan is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Boston College Law School.
Gary DiCamillo, Managing Partner, Eaglepoint Advisors
Gary DiCamillo has 29 years of turnaround management leadership including slow growth companies and major corporate restructurings.
Prior to his work at Eaglepoint Advisors, he was chairman and chief executive officer at the Polaroid Corporation for nearly seven years. He also has served as president of Worldwide Power Tools and Accessories at Black & Decker Corporation and vice president/general manager for Culligan U.S.A., a division of Beatrice Corporation. He began his career in Brand Management at Procter & Gamble Co., followed by several years as a manager at McKinsey & Company.
DiCamillo is a board member of the Whirlpool Corporation, 3Com Corporation, and The Sheridan Group, Inc. He serves on the boards of trustees at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the Museum of Science in Boston, and the Massachusetts Business Roundtable.
DiCamillo is a 1975 graduate of Harvard Business School where he earned an MBA. He also holds a bachelor of science degree in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Thomas S. DiLeonardo, Chief Compliance Officer and Principal, KPMG
Mr. DiLeonardo is responsible for overseeing the firm’s national personnel compliance system, including, but not limited to, oversight of all internal investigations of reports of potential misconduct and related firm-wide policy implementation. DiLeonardo is also a member of the firm’s Legal, Risk & Regulatory Committee, Management Review Panel and Quarterly Training Summit, as well as also served as Assistant Director of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, where he investigated registered public accounting firms, and any associated persons of such firms, for possible violations of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, the Rules of the PCAOB, and the provisions of the securities laws relating to the preparation and issuance of audit reports and professional standards.
Prior to his career at KPMG, DiLeonardo served as a litigator with extensive jury trial experience in white-collar criminal offenses, including high-profile individuals and multi-million dollar fraud schemes with the United States Department of Justice. He served in various positions, including as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of New Jersey, a Senior Trial Attorney in the Tax Division, as well as on the Terrorist Financing Task Force.
Prior to his positions with the United States Department of Justice, DiLeonardo served as a Senior Trial Attorney at the United States Department of the Treasury, where he represented the Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service in numerous civil cases before the United States Tax Court.
DiLeonardo earned his Bachelor of Science in Commerce in Accounting from Rider University, and his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law. He is also admitted to the New Jersey, Pennsylvania and District of Columbia Bar Associations.
Richard “Rip” Haak, CFO, SmartBear Software
Rip’s background includes senior financial leadership positions in publicly traded and privately held technology, education, and energy companies. Previously, as the CFO of EqualLogic, he led the IPO process and road show development just prior to an acquisition by Dell, Inc. for $1.375 billion. Rip was also the CFO of Enterasys Networks (NYSE: ETS), a $350 million enterprise network infrastructure provider. Rip was also the CFO of Advantage Schools and held executive finance positions at PictureTel and Wheelabrator Technologies. Throughout his 25-year career, Rip has built high-performance financial and administrative support teams while creating value-added partnerships with operating management. In his “free” time, Rip is an active board member of Family Service, Inc., a 157 year–old social service agency focused on Youth Mentoring, Family Development, and Mental Health, and serves on the Finance Committee of Bellesini Academy, a private middle school in Lawrence providing quality scholarship education for boys. Outside the office, Rip likes spending time with his family, fly fishing for stripers and blues, and giving back to the community.
Robert Frederick, Professor and Chair of Philosophy, Bentley University
Robert Frederick is professor of philosophy and chair of the Philosophy Department at Bentley University. He is also Research Scholar at the Center for Business Ethics at Bentley, editor of the journal Business and Society Review, and former chair of the Bentley College Faculty Senate. He has published a number of articles in philosophy, business ethics and environmental ethics, and has edited or co-edited ten books on various topics in applied ethics and philosophy. Prior to attending graduate school and joining Bentley, he worked for nine years for a large financial institution in Atlanta, GA, where he was Vice President for Administrative Services. He received a BA degree in Economics from Rice University and an MA and PhD in Philosophy from Brown University.
Benjamin Nye, Managing Director, Bain Capital
Mr. Nye joined Bain Capital Ventures in 2004. Named one of the “100 Most Powerful Venture Capitalists” by Forbes Magazine, and as the leader of the technology and infrastructure software investing efforts for Bain Capital Ventures, Ben Nye’s past investments include Solarwinds (IPO, “SWI), Network Intelligence (sold to EMC,) Archer Technologies (sold to RSA/EMC), LinkedIn (IPO “LNKD”), dynaTrace (sold to Compuware). His current portfolio and board roles include: AppAssure Software, AppNeta, Rapid 7, VM Turbo, ZeroTurnaround, and more. Prior to joining Bain Capital Ventures, recently named one of the 2010 AlwaysOn Winning Venture Capital Firms, Mr. Nye was a SVP at Veritas Software. Prior to Veritas, he was COO and CFO of Precise Software Solutions, where he helped build Precise from a $10MM revenue private company to a $100MM revenue public company prior to its sale to Veritas for $600MM. Earlier in his career Mr. Nye was a Principal at Allied Capital, a public investment company, and he also worked in the U.S. Treasury Department for Treasury Secretaries Lloyd Bentsen and Robert Rubin, and as a consultant for Mercer Management Consulting.
Mr. Nye attended Harvard College and Harvard Business School, where he graduated with honors.
Phillip C. Thomas, Founder and CEO, The CXO Leadership Institute
Phil Thomas is an experienced public and private company senior executive. He is a five-time CEO having led both private and public companies. Prior to his business career, he served eight years with distinction as a decorated U.S. Naval Intelligence Officer and subsequently completed executive development courses at the Harvard and Stanford Business Schools.
During his 30 year military and business career, he has traveled extensively throughout the world and was twice named as a finalist in the Ernst and Young “Entrepreneur of the year” award program; several of his companies received awards such as “Most Innovative New Product”, “Best High Tech Company”, and twice as one of the “Top 100 Best Managed Companies in California”. He has been featured in a two page, color article in Forbes Business Magazine and has appeared in a variety of industry publications.
Sharon Wienbar, Managing Director, Scale Venture Partners
Sharon invests in Mobile and Internet companies at ScaleVP. She sits on the boards of Actiance, BeachMint, Everyday Health, PlayPhone, Reply.com and uTest.
Prior to ScaleVP in 2001, Sharon was Vice President, Marketing for Critical Path and Amplitude Software. She spent most of the 1990’s at Adobe Systems, starting as Product Manager for Asian Products and later led marketing for many of Adobe’s applications, and spearheaded numerous cross-product initiatives. Before her technology line experience, Sharon practiced strategy consulting at Bain & Company for nearly five years.
Sharon holds an A.M. and an A.B. in Engineering from Harvard University, and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Sharon also serves on the board of directors of the non-profit Myelin Repair Foundation and on Microsoft’s Venture Advisory Committee.
Brigadier General Darryl A. Williams, Assistant Surgeon General of Warrior Care and Transition and Commander of the Warrior Transition Command, U.S. Army
BG Darryl A. Williams was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of Field Artillery upon graduation from the United States Military Academy in 1983. After graduation, he attended the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. In his first assignments he served as an executive officer, and fire direction officer in the 1st Battalion, 76th Field Artillery, and platoon leader and assistant operations officer in 1st Battalion, 10th Field Artillery, 3rd Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany. Upon completion of the Field Artillery Officer Advance Course, he served as an assistant operations officer for the XVIII Airborne Corps Artillery and battery commander for the 3rd Battalion, 27th Field Artillery Regiment at Ft. Bragg, NC, during which he deployed to South West Asia in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
After redeploying, he earned a MA in leadership development through the Dwight D. Eisenhower Fellowship Program at the United States Military Academy, and then served as the I-2 Company Tactical Officer, United States Corps of Cadets. He next completed the Command and General Staff College (CGSC) and the School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) at Ft. Leavenworth, KS earning a MMAS degree.
His next assignments included G3 plans officer on the 4th Infantry Division (4ID) staff and operations officer for the 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery, Fort Hood, Texas. After serving as the Army Aide to the President of the United States from 1998-2000, he was selected to command 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery in 4ID, Fort Hood, Texas. Upon completion of command, he served as the Fourth Regimental Tactical officer at West Point, NY.
After earning a MS in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in Newport, RI, he was assigned as the Chief of Exercises, G3 for USAREUR, in Heidelberg, Germany. BG Williams then commanded 1st Armored Division Artillery in Baumholder, Germany and after two years of command, he inactivated the DIVARTY, and deployed to Iraq in support of OIF with 1st Armored Division, as the Fires and Effects Coordinator. Since redeployment, he has been serving as the Deputy Director for Comprehensive Soldier Fitness, HQDA G-3/5/7.
BG Williams’ military decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star (with one oak leaf cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (with five Oak leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (with one oak leaf cluster), Army Achievement Medal, and the Parachutist Badge.
